Raman spectroscopy is a technique for characterising substances. It uses vibrational, rotational frequencies and low-frequency modes to generate a unique spectral fingerprint that reveals what the substance is. This fingerprint is revealed by the observed Raman shift, typically in wavenumbers, which have units of inverse length (cm^-1). There is, therefore, a need to convert between spectral wavelength, wave numbers and frequency of shift in the Raman spectrum.
